Surviving Your First Day of School with Eight Kids

As a mom of eight, I can attest that the first day of school can be both stressful and relaxing all at the same time. After a long summer of juggling work and travel, we are now transitioning into our school time routine. With kids at all different ages, it can be a daunting task to keep up with morning routines, fixing lunches, car lines, and homework. If you're a mom in the same boat, read on for some tips on how to survive the first day of school with eight kids.

1) Make a schedule

With eight kids, organization is key. Make a schedule for the morning routines and make sure everyone knows what they need to do and when. This will help everyone stay on track and minimize the chaos. I like to make a list of everything that needs to be done, from brushing teeth to packing backpacks, and assign tasks to each child. This way everyone is involved, and no one is left to shoulder the entire load.

2) Prep the night before

Save time in the morning by prepping as much as possible the night before. This can include packing lunches, laying out clothes, and making sure all the necessary school supplies are in backpacks. I also like to double-check that we have all the necessary paperwork filled out and ready to go.

3) Utilize carpooling

If you have multiple kids in different schools, carpooling can be a lifesaver. It saves time, gas money, and reduces stress. Coordinate with other parents in your area to see if you can work out a carpool schedule. This can also give your kids some social time before and after school.

4) Take some time for yourself

With everything going on, it's easy to get caught up in the chaos and forget about self-care. Take some time for yourself, whether it's a quick workout, meditation, or just some alone time. This will help you stay relaxed and focused throughout the day.

5) Be Flexible

With eight kids, things aren't going to go perfectly every day. Be prepared to be flexible and adjust as necessary. Don't stress over the small stuff, and remember that tomorrow is a new day.

Conclusion

The first day of school with eight kids can be overwhelming, but it's definitely doable. By making a schedule, prepping the night before, utilizing carpooling, taking time for yourself, and staying flexible, you can survive the first day(s) of school. Remember to take things one step at a time, and before you know it, you'll be settled into your school routine. Good luck, and happy survival!
