Southern Sausage Spaghetti
Southern Sausage Spaghetti
Southern Sausage Spaghetti
This is one of those meals that always tastes amazing–and it’s perfect for busy weeknights especially for families on the go! It’s quick and easy plus there’s no picky eater that would ever say no to spaghetti!
A good spaghetti always starts with a great base. It has taken me a few tries to find a marinara sauce that is really close to that homemade taste. I finally found one called Rao's Homemade Marinara. I was able to find it at my local grocery store and Sam’s Club. I add to that base diced tomatoes, rotel tomatoes, brown sugar, and Italian seasoning.
Using sausage instead of ground meat I find adds more flavor and gives it that extra kick. I start by taking the skin off the outside of the sausage. I am then able to mash it up with a potato masher and brown it with the brown sugar, onions and garlic. Sausage has enough fat in it so you don't need to add oil before browning.
This easy weekday supper idea will keep you going and your family full. I hope you and your family enjoy this southern spaghetti as much as our crew does!!!!

RECIPE
2 tsp minced garlic
1 white onion (chopped small)
1 Tbsp Brown Sugar
2 lbs sausage
14.5 oz Petite Diced Tomatoes (½ the can)
2 22oz Rao's Homemade Marinara
1 Tbsp Italian Seasoning
¼ cup Brown Sugar
½ can Rotel Tomatoes Original
Parmesan Cheese Optional
2 lbs Spaghetti noodles
Take the skin off of the sausage and mash the inside of the sausage up. I like to use a potato masher.
Brown the sausage in 1 Tbsp brown sugar, onion, and garlic in a pot. I like to use The Pampered Chef Rockcrok 4 Qt Dutch Oven.
Once browned add the Rao’s Marinara Sauce and all other ingredients except the Parmesan Cheese and noodles.
Simmer on low for approximately 45 mins stirring occasionally.
While the sauce is simmering, cook the spaghetti noodles according to the package.
When all is cooked, top your noodles with the spaghetti sauce and add parmesan if you would like.
