I'll admit it, I'm a bit of a hoarder. It's something that I've always struggled with, but it's especially challenging now that I'm a mom of multiple kids. You see, when you have more than one kid, you tend to accumulate a lot of stuff—clothes, toys, books, you name it.
And it can be tempting to hang onto all of that stuff "just in case." But trust me, from one hoarder mom to another, that is not the way to go. Here's why.
The main reason why hoarding as a mom is a bad idea is because it creates unnecessary stress and clutter in your life. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to look for something only to realize that it's buried under a pile of clothes or toys that my kids have outgrown. And the more stuff you have, the more time you have to spend cleaning and organizing (or at least that's how it is in my house). Not to mention, all of that stuff takes up valuable space in your home that could be used for something else.
Another downside to hoarding as a mom is that your kids are likely to end up with way more stuff than they need or even want. My kids are constantly asking me for new clothes and toys, and while I do try to be mindful about what they really need, there are definitely times when I give in and buy them something just because it's on sale or because they saw it in a commercial.
As a result, they have more clothes and toys than they could ever possibly use—and so do their friends (who also happen to be the children of hoarder moms).
Finally, hoarding as a mom can be expensive. Sure, you might save a few bucks by hanging onto clothes and toys until your kids can use them, but eventually those clothes and toys are going to go out of style or become broken or worn out. And then you'll end up having to buy new ones anyway. So why not just save yourself the hassle and get rid of the stuff you don't need?
Conclusion
If you're a mom who struggles with hoarding like I do, I hope this has been helpful in convincing you to let some of that stuff go. It's not worth the stress or the money—believe me, I know from experience. So take some time to declutter your home and get rid of the things you don't need. Your life will be much simpler (and less cluttered) as a result.
