Moody Gardens began in the mid-1980s with a horse barn, a riding arena with a hippotherapy riding program for people with head injuries and an extraordinary vision to create an island tourist destination. Today Moody Garden is one of the premier educational/leisure facilities in the Southwest. It also provides horticultural therapy, education and employment for persons with a wide range of physical and emotional disabilities.

They have an onsite full Service hotel. It is a blessing in a world filled with motel 6 and other budget hotels to have a full service hotel. When traveling for business and you just need a place to stop for the night a motel 6 or similar hotel is fine. However, when celebrating a well deserved family vacation or fun get away a traveler wants and deserves all the best. They have a full service restaurants, bars, and shops in the hotel.

But the Main attractions are the activities. Moody Gardens contains enough activities year round to keep people busy for a 2 day trip.

Aquarium Pyramid

Dive into the oceans of the world to visit to one of the largest aquariums in the Southwest. This 1.5-million-gallon aquarium is teeming with creatures from tuxedo-clad penguins, to seals, sharks, an amazing Jellyfish Gallery and thousands of tropical fish and more with new and interactive opportunities all along the way.

Rainforest Pyramid

As you enter through a tree-top canopy entrance, you’ll visit the rainforests of Asia, Africa and the Americas in a rare, up-close and interactive adventure with over 1,700 exotic plants and endangered animals that range from Giant Amazon River Otters to an ocelot, Kmodo dragons and other reptiles. Saki monkeys, Cotton-top tamarins, and sloths roam freely while an array of birds fly between the trees as you walk the trails through the spacious enclosure! 

Discovery Pyramid

This exhibit is an experience that explores the connection between music, science and mathematics. Visitors will find themselves at the crossroads of technology and romance as they explore what makes music. Communicate through whisper pipes, rock a tune on the Theremin or serenade the crowd on the karaoke stage. 

4D & 3D Theaters

Immerse yourself as this amazing giant-screen 4k 6-primary laser projection system, state-of-the-art surround sound and the largest screens in Texas provides one the best 3D viewing experiences in the world.

Colonel Paddlewheel

Live the high-life on a 45-minute cruise aboard a replica of an 1800s paddlewheel boat. The Colonel Paddlewheel has day trips that last about 45 mins and dinner cruises. You can also book the Colonel Paddlewheel for special events.

My how Have They Grown

1986 to 1988 Hope Therapy: Site secured by The Moody Foundation to establish a hippotherapy program. Later expanded to include animal and horticultural therapy, education and employment for persons with physical and emotional disabilities. Convention Center: Originally opened as Hope Arena. It later expanded from 35,000 to 60,000 square feet to accommodate trade shows, conventions and events. It is now known as the Moody Gardens® Convention Center. Palm Beach: Tons of white Florida sand was barged in across the Gulf of Mexico to create this exotic family beach. The Learning Place: Originally opened as Seaside Safari. Now the home of our educational programs.

1993 – Rainforest Pyramid and MG 3D Theater Complex: More than 1,700 exotic plant and animal species from the rainforests of Asia, the tropical Americas and Africa are featured in the Rainforest Pyramid

1997 – Discovery Pyramid Moody Gardens second grand pyramid. Debuted with NASA – inspired exhibits, and now features traveling science exhibits. It is also home to the Ride-film Theater, offering a thrilling motion simulation experience.
