If you’re looking for the perfect place to kick back, relax and enjoy lunch or dinner and freshly brewed beer, you’ve come to the right place! Rikenjaks Brewing Company is a full service restaurant housed in a fully-restored 70 year old Midtown Lake Charles bungalow.
Originally founded in 1992, Rikenjaks offers patrons “Louisiana Comfort Food,” live entertainment, outdoor patio dining, a full bar and—most importantly—a great tasting selection of Louisiana Craft Beers.
What could be better than that? As the only Restaurant/Brewpub in Southwest Louisiana, Rikenjaks is the premier destination for your lunch, dinner, late night or just your next beer.
We recently visited Rickenjaks in Lake Charles. We were in the mood for live music and food. This particular night was not to hot or not to cold. In Louisiana to find a cool summer night with little to no humidity is difficult.
Rickenjaks is a good option for us. It is a casual laid back no rush atmosphere. It is a great place to take your time and enjoy the moment. We lucked out and ran into some old friend while waiting on a table. We sat around the fire pit catching up on.
The atmosphere at Rickenjaks is cool especially for a family like ours. Once we got our table the kids had lots of space to move and play. They had hula hoops, ping pong, and other games for the kids.
Sitting outside with the lights strung above is slightly magical. For working parents it is nice to have a place you can bring the family all while having a since of culture.
Chain restaurants get old. You want your kids to remember their local culture and heritage. Not just some multimillion dollar corporation trying to look local.
The bench and picnic tables are also great for families like ours. We had absolutely no worries about damaging anything. There was a lot of freedom to just be in the moment.
The Mac N Cheese seems to be the favorite choice at Rickenjaks. We ordered the pulled pork and shrimp mac n cheese. It had a spice that none of us were expecting. Overall they are great solid 10 out of 10.
We also ordered the boudin balls. Ava loved the boudin balls. My personal favorite were the alligator balls.
The nachos were next level. They had just right balance of veggies and protein. We ordered the shrimp nachos. The shrimp nachos did not disappoint.
The music started about 8 pm. Just to hear live music at a restaurant is special. When you add the atmosphere of the lights, music, food, and family fun it is a great option for a Louisiana Saturday night.
I felt more like we were hanging out in a friends backyard than at a stuffy restaurant. The music is also the right volume. Other places that have live music can over power the experience with loud music.
If the music is too loud it kills the intimacy's of dinner at your table. Holding conversations becomes a task. Rickenjaks has the perfect volume when it comes to the music. We were seated halfway across the restaurant and could he the music perfectly but still have a table discussion.
I recommend visiting Rickenjacks in Lake Charles just don't be in a rush. Be ready to hang out for a while. Relax enjoy the time with friends and family. Enjoy the craft beer. Enjoy the atmosphere. Enjoy the food. Enjoy the moment.
That is what the Cajun country life is all about. The people of south Louisiana are a hardworking group. So reward yourself with a little down time great food, cool music, exciting beer, and cool atmosphere.
