The Town of Fort Myers Beach, incorporated since 1995, is on Estero Island off the southwest Florida coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The Town has a variety of unique cultural, parks, recreational and natural settings, as well as shops and restaurants.
Beaches
Fort Myers Beach on Estero Island is a favorite destination of many locals, snowbirds and vacationers. The Island boasts seven miles of white sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico where the ocean floor slopes gently towards the horizon with no sudden drop-offs or big waves. The Town of Fort Myers Beach maintains 26 public beach accesses on Estero Island, including Newton Beach Park and Seven Seas Cottage. These are marked and easily accessed from Estero Boulevard, the only thoroughfare through the Island. Many of the accesses also have public parking, and 24 of them are ADA accessible either by mobile mat or ramp.
Time Square
Times Square is in the downtown area of Fort Myers Beach and is one of the most iconic areas of the Town. It is at the north end of Estero Island at the base of Matanzas Pass Bridge. A variety of beachfront retail and restaurant establishments along with the famous pier and public beach access make up the square. The beachfront park and pier is Lee County's Lynn Hall Memorial Park. Times Square is scheduled to undergo renovations in 2022. See the site plans.
Fort Myers Beach Trolley
The Trolley only costs 75 cents a ride, $2 for an all-day pass or $4 for a 3-day pass. Be sure to have the exact fare as the drivers CANNOT make change! You can also use the cashless methods described below in the next section. Discounted fares are available to seniors aged 65 and older, persons with disabilities and full-time students. Riders who qualify for our student and senior discounted TropiCards can purchase a discounted fare pass at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center. Children under 42 inches ride LeeTran at no charge.
Summary
Fort Myers has all the standard vacation attraction. But it has something a little extra. It has a true beach town feel. With the many shops, parks, small beach homes, and live music you feel total submerged in beach life. Yet you feel less like you are on vacation and more like you are at home. Fort Myers now ranks as one of our family favorite beaches.
