Tornado 2022/2023 Basketball Schedule
We caught up with Coach Adam Coleman and asked him a few questions regarding the 2022/2023 season.
How do you see the 2022/2023 season from your vantage point?
We believe the 2022-2023 season to be the best season we have had in years. We have players that have varsity playing experience and physical maturity that is needed to be successful in this level of competition. We have more depth on the team than we have had in recent years. This will be key in keeping guys healthy and is a great resource to have in case of injury.

What did the Tors work on the most this offseason?
We installed a “Read and React” offense that gives players a set of rules and tactics but also gives them a great amount of freedom to read the defense and go make plays. It is impossible to scout since there is no set pattern.
We continued to build our “pack line” man to man identity on defense through our summer league games.
Now in year four as head coach at Sulphur High School, what are you excited about?
We are excited about the growth we have seen over the previous 3 seasons. This year’s seniors have been with us from the beginning, so they understand our standards. This is a special group to us.
Name one thing about your team that has surprised you this season?
There have not really been any surprises, we have such a high expectation of them and see potential in all of them. We have had more guys step up to that potential than we have had in the past, which will give us increased depth on our team.
What’s been a strength you’ve been able to rely on this preseason?
Consistency. We are so proud of our guys coming in each day through the preseason and being consistent in their approach to getting better that day. Over a period of time, we have seen substantial growth and improvement not only individually but as a team.

What are you looking for from your team in the first 5-10 minutes?
We have a routine in practice that hopefully builds a mentality to get off to a quick aggressive start. The first 5-10 minutes should give us a great indication of how focused we are. If need be we can timeout to refocus their attention. But hopefully, we get from them what they do on a daily basis in practice, which is getting off to a quick and aggressive start. We want the opponent to be forced to call the first timeout.
How many seniors does the Tors have this year and how does that compare to years past?
We have 5 seniors. Which is more than the amount of seniors we have had combined in the previous 3 years.

What is the goal this year for Sulphur Tor Basketball?
We have had back to back playoff appearances and a 20 win season last year. The boys have a goal to uphold that standard, but to take it a step farther. We would like to host and win our first playoff game here at Sulphur in quite some time.
Many students have mentioned that the band brings a fun atmosphere to the games, will the Sulphur High Band be at some of the home games?
We have invited the band and tried to accommodate them, and they plan on having a pep band at certain home games.
What will be the key factors to reaching the goals for this season?
Our ability to share a common goal and put aside natural individual ambitions will be key. We are deep and want to use that as a strength. That will require guys sharing minutes. When viewed through the correct lens, this could be an advantageous strategy individually and for the team.
If you tell or ask the community one thing what would it be?
This community has incredible pride in their school and athletics. I would urge them to get behind this program and team. They are working incredibly hard to represent our community well and they are fun to watch! When we can pack the stands and create an environment that is intimidating for the opponent, that is a great advantage for us!
Coach Coleman's dedication to the mission of making Sulphur basketball great again is in motion. You can watch his tenacity during the game. He is competing during the game just as hard as the players are. He has a goal and a vision. Which seems to be very player and team oriented. From the mentality to the new locker room he has created a culture that is necessary to compete and win in 5A basketball.
He is always looking for ways to help the program grow and develop. It's not just about wins and losses but building a community of basketball that everyone can be proud of. Coach Coleman doesn't just focus on winning; he also prioritizes developing relationships with his players and enjoying the game. He wants to ensure his team is learning the game and having fun while doing it.
We can all be proud of what Coach Coleman and the Sulphur Tors will achieved this season. With a strong senior class, a deep bench, and an intense coaching staff, we are sure to see the program reach greater heights this season.
